About Taichi Murakami
Hide info ↑ About a designer ↓

Despite the fact that Taichi Murakami’s foundation lies in the pattern-making rigor of M.A+ (Maurizio Amadei), his output has diverged significantly to establish his own distinct identity. His practice is characterized by extensive material research implementing traditional Japanese techniques for carbon dyeing, or the microscopic engineering of textiles, most notably the "DNA" series, where the fabric is weaved out of proprietary Taichi Murakami paper.

A central tenet of his work is the "revival" of synthetic materials. He re-contextualizes sterile, industrial 3-layer nylon by integrating steel fibers or relamination. This technique removes the fabric’s industrial, uniform shape, allowing the synthetic material to obtain an organic look. The garments are anchored by signature hardware: various oxidised solid silver buttons and clips are almost never the same.
