Established in Kobe by Ryosuke Ohbuchi, Portaille treats shoemaking as a direct extension of tanning. Ohbuchi, a former tanner selects hides that retain their natural topography, including scars and grain irregularities.
The construction methodology fuses a classical silhouette with a heavy industrial aesthetic while incorporating comfort-focused engineering. Cushioned insoles and ergonomic lasts are integrated into the build, mitigating the rigidity associated with thick horse culatta.
The sub-label, PRTL, operates as the brand’s platform for experimentation. Deviating from the main line's more classic look, PRTL focuses on research of leather treatments, as well as nontraditional shapes and forms.
