Previously known as Augusta, the brand a1923 is the brainchild of Simone Cecchetto, a leather expert who was part of the team behind the legendary label Carpe Diem that pioneered artisanal “slow” fashion. Cecchetto still retains a strong love of the primary material –leather – and only works with individual highly skilled artisans, rather than having a production line.
A1923 collections stem from Cechetto’s ongoing research into leather treatments. All the leathers used in the brand’s collections, from cow to horse to shark, are tanned and dyed in-house: the hides are purchased with the fur still on, and the entire production process is overseen – and, at times, executed – by Cechetto himself. The shoes are crafted by hand in Italy; their solid weight and structure and snug feel on the foot create an impactful silhouette and change their wearers’ gait, endowing them with a powerful presence.
A1923 ankle boots and derbies, as well as a variety of signature a1923 sneaker models, are probably some of the most recognizable styles in this fashion segment, along with CCP or BBS sneakers, Guidi and Layer-0 shoes.
